egypt
the next 3 frames you'll see are views from my hostel in cairo, egypt. the 1st is obviously shot during the day with normal cairo traffic (which is horrible) and where you can see how bad the smog is. the 2nd and 3rd were shot on the same night but at different times. to set this up correctly, i visited cairo during ramadan, the islamic month for fasting.
the shot below, was taken about 8:30pm local time and many egyptians that participate in ramadan, fasting starts at sunrise and ends around sunset which was about 6:30-7pm local. after then, they spend time with their family, rest and relax. the majority of businesses are closed during this time, as depicted in the shot below. virtually a ghost town if you will.
this next shot doesn't really do justice but it's just unbelievable. the time of this shot is around 10pm. the amount of people walking in the streets and sidewalks, triples at midnite! it has the makings of road rage marathons if this was in the states. but, it's different here. no road rage what so ever. everyone's belly is full, well rested and now, it's time to socialize and shop! people start pouring into the streets of cairo around 10pm, all 7 million of them by midnite. it's an overwhelming site to see and experience. it's festive, energetic and adventurous and it stays like this until 4am! and as you can see, traffic AFTER fasting is worse than during fasting (during the day) - which is horrible in my eyes. would you believe the best way around town during these hours is by foot?

wkt bff sjc
this went up, i'm guessing, early saturday morning, based on how low the characters are to the ground and that this parking lot is full on a friday night. this is smack dab in the middle of downtown san jose in a wide open highly visible area. it's a huge blank wall that's begging for a nice artsy mural. at any rate, these taggers had major balls to attempt AND pull this off.
